Myawaddy trade route resumes normally since Oct 22 evening

Since the evening of October 22, Myawaddy trade route resumes its normal trade according to sources.

Clashes occurred at the Myawaddy-Kawkareik trade route on October 18 and as a result, trade route was closed till afternoon.

Lorries carrying farm produce, and marine products after stranded for days, faced losses although they had cold storages. Some passengers heading to Myawaddy turned back to their homes although some were still waiting there.

Heavy fighting between security forces and joint forces of the KNU and PDF occurred from 7:30 am on October 21 in Kawkareik, Kayin State and the firing on both sides continued until around 12:00 pm, according to locals.

There was no news on exchange of fire at Myawaddy trade route on October 21, but passing of trucks were suspended in Kawkareik due to clashes and heavy weapon explosions according to a truck driver.
