For Myanmar citizens living abroad, preparations will be made for them to be able to vote in their respective foreign countries or return home to vote, said Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe.

The information came after a media question about any plan for Myanmar citizens living and working abroad to vote.

"We have made voter lists for Myanmar workers living abroad and their families. Moreover, we will arrange expat voting or home voting for them when the election takes place," the minister said.

According to rough voter lists, the number of eligible voters in Myanmar has increased by about three million for the coming election compared to the 2015 election, the minister quoted the announcement of the Union Election Commission.

"We have now made basic voter lists only. We are doing update every day. Voter lists have yet to be collected in some regions including Wa. The commission will announce the lists in a transparent manner.

For the general election to be held in 2020, there are over 37 million eligible voters excluding servicemen and their families.

There are 96 registered political parties for the coming election. Of them, three parties were suspended, three under scrutiny for formation and two under scrutiny for registration. The period for party registration will be over by the end of December.
