Most areas of Myanmar including Yangon and Taninthayi regions and Rakhine State have rain on May 1 due to a very severe cyclonic storm “Fani”.

Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Director General of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) said rain may pour across the country due to the effect of the cyclone and rain poured down in the afternoon in most townships in Yangon Region.

The DMH announced a little rain poured down in townships in Yangon including Thingangyun, Tamwe and Thaketa townships on May 1.

Rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread to widespread in upper Sagaing, Bago, Yangon,  Ayeyawady and Thanintharyi regions, Kachin, Chin, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states, isolated to scattered in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway regions, Shan and Kayah states with regionally and isolated heavy falls in some areas, the DMH announced.

Although the possibility of the cyclone to hit Myanmar is very little now, locals need to be careful of strong wind and tornado made by the clouds split from the cyclone, warned the director general.
