A total of 17 cruise liners were visited Myanmar last year and more liners will visit in this year, according to Myanma Port Authority (MPA).

Up to 16 cruise liners from European countries and United States will pay a visit to Myanmar in this year and most of them are from the United States.

MS AMADEA cruise liner carrying over 400 German citizens arrived at MIPL port in Myanmar for the first time this year on January 23.

Onboard the cruise liner is 490 passengers from European countries including 427 Germans, 26 Swiss and 18 Australians, and 317 crew members.

MS AMADEA arrived in Yangon on January 23 and is set to leave for Phuket in Thailand on January 25. During their stay in Yangon, the tourists will be visiting around Yangon and Bagan.

Till October last year, Myanmar received 1,085,272 foreign tourists who arrived on visas - 1,042,765 by air, 7,139 by cruise ship and 35,377 via border point of entry.  It is 0.31 per cent more by air, 33.66 per cent more by cruise ship and 17.65 per cent more via border point of entry in compared with last year arrival.

Yangon International Airport (YIA) saw the lowest passenger arrival last year and it is the lowest within five-year time.

The YIA had its five millionth passengers on November 15 2018. Yangon Aerodrome Co. Ltd., which is managing the YIA, announced the tourists’ arrival before November 15 is only 2.5 per cent more in compared with last year tourists’ arrival.
