The Kason Water Pouring festival will be held in the whole Kyaikkhami Township, Mon State, in conjunction with a ceremony to convey the 28 Buddha statues to respective wards in Kyaikkhami Township on the full moon day of Kason which falls on May 3, according to the Kyaikkhami Pagoda Board of Trustees.

The 28 Buddha statues were first conveyed to the wards of Kyaikkhami Township from the Kyaikkhami Pagoda yesterday morning, and then the statues are now being temporally kept at the respective ordination halls for public obeisance. Later, 28 Buddha stupas will be kept in the downtown area of Kyaikkhami Township on May 2.

“The auspicious occasion of the full moon day of Kason, also called the Buddha’s Day will be held at the Sasana Beikman building around 6am on Kason Full Moon Day. In the evening, we are going to convey the 28 statues to the platform of Kyaukkhami Pagoda from the ordination halls,” said one of the Pagoda Board of Trustees.

He continued that the Kason Water Pouring ceremony will be held at the Maha Bodhi banyan tree situated on the Kyaikkhami Pagoda platform.

“In the past, the whole Kyaikkhami Township’s 28 Buddha Stupas Conveying and Kason Water Pouring ceremonies were very crowded with the dwellers. There were entertainment programs including theatrical troupes and funfairs during festivals. However, there were no theatrical troupes in the previous year festival. On the eve of Kason Full Moon day which falls on May 2, 28 Buddha statues will be conveyed to the whole Kyaikkhami Township,” said one of the dwellers from Kyaikkhami Township.

The dwellers have to hold Buddha Pujaniya Festival of the Kyaikkhami Pagoda starting from 14th Waxing of Thadingyut to until 5th Waning of Thadingyut. Hundred thousands of pilgrims paid homage to the Kyaikkhami Pagoda during the regular Buddha Pujaniya Festival.
