Mine attack on a freight train delays Yangon-Mandalay passenger express train schedules

A freight train heading from Mandalay to Yangon was attacked with a mine in the early hours of August 18 and as a result, Yangon-Mandalay passenger express train schedules were temporarily suspended according to Station Master of Yangon Railway Station.

The freight train was 924 downstream train and explosion occurred between Kanyut Kwin and Taw Kywein in Phyu Township. Yangon-Mandalay passenger express train schedules were temporarily suspended and selling of tickets was also suspended.

“The road section of Yangon-Mandalay is being repaired but we are not selling any tickets right now. If the repairing work takes time, there is a plan to refund to the travellers who bought tickets in advance. Depending on the repairing of Ygn-Mdy railroad, we’ll do what we should do,”  said the Station Master of Yangon Railway Station.

The details of the train and railroad damage as well as causality were not known. The Station Master of Yangon Railway Station added that Ygn-Mdy railroad is being repaired and only when it completed, trains will operate under normal schedule.

It is reported that Yangon-Mandalay passenger express train schedules will stop for two days. As the train is mostly relied and used by basic people, it caused a big problem for travellers using trains according to locals.
