Man found dead with gunshot wound in Hpa-kant Township

The body of a 30-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound was found at the edge of Kyaikseintaung Bridge in Hpa-Kant Township, Kachin State, yesterday morning,  according to local sources. 

There have been frequent shootings and killings  in Kachin State’s Hpa-kant region. The victim namely Aung Kyaw Oo lived in Maw Wun Ward of Hpa-Kant region.

Likewise, a person who sold mats, pillows and money boxes was shot in the head in Kahtaymaw village, Hpa-kant region on the afternoon of April 29. But, the victim died of a gunshot wound on the spot.

Moreover, six people including a military officer were shot dead at Happy KTV (Karaoke) Lounge in Mashikahtaung ward in Hpa-kant Township on April 23. On the following day, two young men were found dead with gunshot wounds in front of Happy KTV.

“Mainly, they were scheming to take territorial control and power. After the PDF members and the protesters had been arrested, the whole villagers were also arrested. Likewise, the PDF members and KIA arrested and killed those accused of being military informants. Within a year, there were deaths caused by shootings. Most businesspersons don't dare to speak out because they are afraid of both sides. Unless both sides communicate with each other, it will be difficult to do business,” said a local from Hpa-kant region.

Deaths caused by shootings monthly occur in Hpa-kant region, and over 60 persons were killed within two years.
