Low pressure area over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining the South Bay of Bengal has made untimely rain in lower Myanmar and temperature will be a little higher for about one week, said Deputy Director Hla Tun from Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

“Lower areas of Myanmar have more rain due to the low pressure area. It may intensify. If it moves to northwards, it can bring rain to middle areas of Myanmar. We still have to monitor it. It may be weaken in the sea. It may intensify around December 14 or 15. Middle areas of Myanmar will have rain on December 16,” he said.

Warm air has entered Myanmar due to the low pressure area. Cold air from China is also blown as it is winter now. If the low pressure area diminishes, the weather will be colder, he said.

“Temperature in southern areas of Myanmar will increase a little for about one week and according to our forecast, the low pressure area may intensify into a depression,” said the deputy director.

The recorded rainfalls on December 10 are 1.53 inches in Kengtung, 0.63 inch in Co Co Island, 0.4 inch in Kunlong, 0.35 inch in Phyu, 0.32 inch in Mongyang and 0.16 inch in Loilen respectively, announced the DMH.

Weather will be partly cloudy in upper Sagaing Region, Kachin and Chin states and rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread in eastern Shan State, scattered in Taninthayi Region, southern Shan and Kayah states and isolated in the remaining regions and states. Degree of certainty is 80%.
