The State Sangha Nayaka Committee issued an order on June 4 prohibiting the use and possession of unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles in monasteries and nunneries across Mon State.

According to the directive, a coordinated plan is being implemented to take action against unlicensed vehicles, and presiding monks are advised to apply for the necessary orders through their respective Sangha Nayaka Committees to enforce the ban within their affiliated religious institutions.

Monasteries and nunneries in local wards and village tracts have been instructed to comply immediately and refrain from operating or keeping unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles.

The directive follows a statewide crackdown on unlicensed vehicles that began on June 1. Reports indicate that some individuals had moved such vehicles to monasteries to avoid seizure, prompting complaints to local Sangha Nayaka Committees.

Sources close to the State Religious Affairs Office noted that some of the unlicensed vehicles bear religious logos and are being used within religious compounds. Authorities are now actively seizing such vehicles, regardless of their religious affiliation.
