Myanmar and India Jointly Open UN Peacekeeping Officer Course in Nay Pyi Taw

The opening ceremony of the UN Peacekeeping Officer Course, jointly organized by the Myanmar military and the Indian Army to enhance the knowledge of Myanmar military officers and personnel regarding United Nations peacekeeping operations, was held yesterday afternoon (May 11) at the PARKROYAL Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, according to reports.

Attending the ceremony were Vice Senior General and Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swar Lin, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of the Nay Pyi Taw Command, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar  Mr. Abhay Thakur, military attachés, instructor officers from the Indian Army, trainee officers from the Myanmar military, and other officials.

Before the opening ceremony, General Kyaw Swar Lin and accompanying officials viewed records and displays highlighting the Indian Army’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions, as well as joint Myanmar–India military exercises related to UN peacekeeping operations. Officials reportedly provided explanations during the exhibition tour.

During the ceremony, General Kyaw Swar Lin delivered the opening address, followed by welcoming remarks from Indian Ambassador  Mr. Abhay Thakur.

Attendees then watched a video presentation titled “Indian Army Contribution to the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations.” Afterwards, the lead instructor from India’s Center for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) explained the objectives of the course and the training programs related to UN peacekeeping operations.

According to reports, this is the ninth time the course has been conducted, and a total of 30 trainee officers from the Myanmar Army, Navy, and Air Force will attend the program.

The course will include both theoretical and practical training on subjects such as the history, structure, rules, and implementation of UN peacekeeping operations; codes of conduct for UN peacekeeping personnel; protection of civilians and children; civil-military cooperation; patrol operations; convoy security; construction of company operating bases; and the “Blue Helmet” exercise. The training program will continue until May 22.
