Bangladeshi citizens who entered Myanmar illegally were sent back by air and through border after actions were taken against them in accord with the existing laws, said Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population Thein Swe.

The minister revealed the information after a question raised by MP Soe Thein for Kayah State Constituency No (9) during the meeting of Upper House of Parliament held in Nay Pyi Taw on June 3.

"We are deporting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants after taking action and giving punishment against them in line with the existing laws. The Bangladeshi embassy in Yangon is informed about those who committed offences through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In some cases, information is sent to the Bangladeshi consulate in Sittway. When arrestees are found to be real Bangladeshis, contacts are made with the embassy and consulate to send them back by air. In some cases, they are deported through border after negotiations and meetings," said the minister.

The minister added that the Bengalis living in Rakhine State were arrested if they violated the restrictions on their movement without documents, they faced action in accordance with the existing laws and were sent back home.
