KUALA LUMPUR (The Star/ANN)—The battle against the Covid-19 pandemic has received a timely boost with medical frontliners at Hospital Kuala Lumpur being given a place to shower and rest in the city centre.
Following an appeal by the Health Ministry, the Lotus Group of companies stepped forward to open its two hotels in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Melayu to medical staff.
Group CEO Datuk R. Doraisingam Pillai said the two hotels, being near the hospital, were convenient for the medical frontliners to come in and rest.
“The ministry approached us and we were more than happy to oblige. There can be no better time for us to step up in service of the nation.
“My late father Rengasamy Pillai always told me, if you do something, never expect anything back. God will always find ways to take care of you.
“We love our motherland more than anything,” he said yesterday.
Doraisingam said the company has provided a total of 150 rooms in both hotels for healthcare staff to utilise.
He said employees in both hotels were stationed in Wisma Lotus.
Doraisingam said some guests at the Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman hotel were moved to the hotel in Jalan Melayu.
“We can’t ask them to leave because they are long-term guests.
“So we have allocated the top floor of the hotel to them,” he added.
Doraisingam said the Lotus Desaru Beach Resort and Spa in Johor also contributed freshly packed meals to healthcare workers, police, military service personnel, firemen and local authority employees.
“We send about 500 to 600 packed meals daily to them as our way of supporting the government’s movement control order (MCO) period,” he said.
Doraisingam said the packed meals were delivered to various locations in Kota Tinggi, Bandar Penawar, Tg Sedili, Pungai and Bayu Damai daily.
Apart from that, Lotus Estate in Jempol was also helping by preparing and delivering freshly packed meals to some 120 frontliners in Air Hitam, Batu Kikir, Serting Ilir and Lui Selatan in Negri Sembilan daily.
