Hailstone storm strikes Myitkyina

MYITKYINA----Hailstone storm struck northern part of Myitkyina Township, Kachin State, this morning, according to the sources.

“The hail stone came through the roof and then it destroyed the rubber farm. Every house kept the hail stones,” said Hla Win from Palana Ward No.3.

“Untimely rain poured down in some part of Myitkyina Township due to the whirlwind coming from the west. There is no hailstone storm in the downtown of Myitkyina Township. But, it struck the northern part. The whirlwind will effect in following two days and there is no chance to strike the hailstone,” said Director Tin Htike from Department of Meteorology and Hydrology in Myitkyina Township.

Ko San Lu Yan Hsai also warned the public through his Facebook page that snow-capped mountain trips to Phone Kan, Phone Yin, Ma Dwe and Phone Yan already had been postponed due to torrential rain poured down in the areas of snow-capped mountain in the northern part of Puta-O Township.

Likewise, the hail stones had destroyed 1,000 acres of mustard oil plantations in Myitkyina Township, on January 26th of 2016.

Moreover, hundred acres of seasonal crop plantations were damaged by the hail stones in Bhamaw district, Kachin State, on January 9th of 2015.
