Gunmen kill one and wound another in Daik-U tea shop shooting

Two local administrators were attacked by unidentified gunmen at a tea shop in Daik-U Township, Bago Region, on January 18, leaving one dead and another injured. The victims were identified as 100-household administrator U Khin Maung Aye, who died from a bullet wound, and ward administrator U Khin Win, who was shot in the back of his head.

According to witnesses, the assailants arrived on a motorbike and opened fire on the two administrators, who were sitting at Hein Kyaw tea shop in Phaaungwe ward, before fleeing the scene. The security forces arrived shortly after and took the victims to the Daik-U People’s Hospital.

The motive behind the shooting is unclear, and the security forces are investigating the incident and searching for the suspects, who will face legal action.
