A cargo train carrying gravel was attacked with a mine between Donwin and Theinseik railway stations in Thaton Township, Mon State, on August 20.

An official from Thaton Railway Station said the train was mined between railway mile posts 123/23 and 123/24 on Yangon-Mawlamyine railroad at about 9.25am while it was running en route from Bilin to Thaton.

“There was no major damage to the cargo train, but about one feet of railway tracks was destroyed,” he said.

The official added that the repair was being promptly carried out for the convenience of the trains running between Yangon and Mawlamyine.

They have been frequent mine attacks on the railroad section between Mawlamyine and kyaikhto townships along Yangon-Mawlamyine railroad. On April 4 also, a train carrying gravel was attacked with a mine near Kawthan Village in Thaton Township.

Likewise, there were three mine attacks on the railroad and trains in January this year, according to Myanmar Railways.
