The Union Election Commission announced today (August 18) that the first phase of the 2025 general election will be held on December 28, 2025.

The commission stated that, in accordance with Section 399(a) of the 2008 Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Section 10 of the Union Election Commission Law, and Section 34(c) of the Hluttaw Election Law together with Sub-rule 16(a), it has decided to hold the first phase of the multi-party democratic general election for the respective Hluttaws on Sunday, December 28, 2025 (Pyatho 10, 1387 ME).

It also announced that the dates for the subsequent phases of the election will be announced in due course.
