Fighting blocks off medicines and foodstuff to Paletwa and Maungdaw: OCHA Myanmar

YANGON----Due to the ongoing fighting between Tatmadaw[military] and Arakan Army (AA), transport of medicines and feedstuff already has been restricted so also security has been beefed up in paletwa Township of Chin State and Maungdaw Township in Rakhine State, according to the announcement of Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Myanmar(OCHA Myanmar) issued yesterday.

The OHCA Myanmar reported that the regional security in Rakhine State is unstable due to the flash fighting between AA and Tatmadaw.

The fighting is now intensifying in Wailar Mountain of northern Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State by using heavy weapons. So, 100 households comprising 364 family members in Rathetaung Township have been displaced and partner organizations are now providing aids to the displaced villagers, according to OCHA Myanmar.

The OCHA Myanmar said that fighting frequently took place in paletwa Township, Chin State, since the early of August in 2022. So, the authorities restricted transport of medicines and food supplies to Paletwa Township of Chin State and Maungdaw Township in northern Rakhine State so also the security has been beefed up at the many places including land route and water way.

The previous fighting between AA and Tatmadaw had forced up to nearly 50,500 villagers to flee their homes. Although the partner organizations were fulfilling the basic requirements for the displaced villagers, they have faced difficulties of restrictions at the IDPs camps, according to OCHA Myanmar.

The OCHA Myanmar reported that due to torrential rain poured down in Rakhine State since August 16th, flood occurred in many wards and Kyauktalon IDPs camp in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State. So, about 80 people living in Thanban Chaung Ward and 15 households from Kyauktalon IDPs camp were sent to temporary flood relief camps. On August 18th, water level decreased so the flood victims returned back to their IDPs camp.

The Humanitarian Partner Organizations will be renovating waterway system and cesspits which were destroyed in Kyauktalon IDPs camp due to torrential rain.
