The father of Htet Wai Htoo, who was shot dead in Mawlamyine of Mon State on March 5, has denied that the body of his son was exhumed from the tomb in Kyauktan cemetery on March 7.

When contacted after rumours about the exhumation of the body of his son, Thein Soe said it was false news adding that those seen at the tomb were workers setting up a fence around his son’s tomb.

“It’s impossible. I went to his tomb yesterday morning. I also visited there this morning. There were workers setting up a fence around the tomb. It is necessary to release correct news. False news will be problematic. Thank you for directly contacting me,” Thein Soe said.

At about 5 pm on March 3, security forces took position at the junction of Thiri Myaing traffic lights in Mawlamyine. As they went up to Zaykyo traffic lights, the security forces fired guns and tear gas at the local people in Shwe Street in Thiri Myaing Ward.

After gunfire, a dead body was recovered from the top of Shwe (1) Street. And it was Htet Wai Htoo, who was shot in the head. He was a third-year student majoring in geology.
