Elevated highway tender winner will take full responsibility: Deputy Minister

The company which succeeded the tender for elevated highway has to take full responsibility, said Kyaw Lin, Deputy Minister for Construction.

The name of tender winner for Phase 1 of Yangon Elevated Highway project (YEX) will be announced in June, said Kyi Zaw Myint, Deputy Director General from the ministry.

The ministry received applications from 12 companies to implement the phase 1 of YEX under public private partnership (PPP) and it chose ten companies which met the requirements.

The companies are from France, China, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Myanmar and most of them are from China.

The companies, which are qualified to compete in the tender, could take records in related with the project in details. They are being invited to apply request for proposal and the ministry will announce concession agreement.

The project is the first priority of the government and is expected to ease traffic jam in Yangon and to provide assistance to the economy and social duties of the country.

The elevated highway will connect downtown Yangon, Yangon port, Yangon International Airport, Mingaladon Industrial Zone and Yangon-Mandalay expressway.
