Relevant departments should speed up their efforts to launch the anti-corruption lessons at the basic education level, said Upper House MP Naw Hla Hla Soe from Yangon Region Constituency-10, yesterday (on August 5).

Lawmakers discussed the letter sent to the President on the signing on as a member of International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), at the regular session of Union parliament on August 5.

As MPs themselves are worrying about it, the public also worry that the responsible persons themselves may get involved in the corrupt cases. I would like to urge the Anti-Corruption Commission to increase its responsibility for that matter. There is an urgent need for the Union Parliament to ensure the enactment of the Law protecting the people who give the information about corruption,” she added.

The commission is urged to earnestly reply to the lawmakers’ questions about corruption. Officials are urged to create a proper, effective mechanism which will connect the MPs, she continued.

The 18 Union Ministries have formed 32 Corruption Protection Units (CPU). The CPUs always need to sharpen their skills in order to expose inter-departmental corruption cases, solve the problems in accordance with the civil servant law and handover the cases in which action should be taken against the corrupt staff in conformity with the Anti-Corruption Law, to the commission, she said.
