Some lottery shops had lowered the price of K1000 lottery tickets as the demand for the K1000 lottery tickets is low, according to sales agents.

Aung Satt Paing lottery shop is selling them at K900 per ticket, which is its original price at the Aung Bar Lay sub-department, which is the official lottery ticket authority.

“The demand is lower as it is K1000 lottery ticket. Some are saying you can buy four cans of rice for the price of a lottery ticket in comparison,” said the owner of Aung Satt Paing lottery ticket shop.

Outlets of Moe Yan lottery ticket shop in Pansodan Road is also carrying out promotions. If the buyers bought ten K1000 lottery tickets, the shop presented them with an extra K500 lottery ticket. If they bought 20 K1000 lottery tickets, it presented them with three K500 lottery tickets and so on.

“When the government sold K500 lottery tickets, people that didn’t try their luck before bought them as the jackpot prize pools were seven times higher than K200 lottery tickets. Now the jackpot in K1000 lottery is only K1.5 billion and it didn’t attract many people as it is not much different from the jackpot in K500 lottery. If the government increases the number of jackpots, it may persuade people to try their luck. We can afford to give them a K200 lottery ticket if the buyers bought three K500 lottery tickets. People are not interested to try the K1000 lottery tickets as they only have a K500 lottery ticket in return. The lottery tickets sales agents can expect lose some of their business this month,” said Customer Service Manager Su Mon from Moe Yan Shwe Lamin and Myat Su Kaday lottery main shop.

Although the jackpot in K500 lottery tickets was increased sevenfold from the jackpot in K200 lottery tickets, the jackpot in K1000 lottery tickets is only double, said Phyo Wai, a lottery ticket salesperson.

The department will stop the sale of K500 lottery tickets at the end of April.
