Brotherhood Alliance announces one-month ceasefire

The Brotherhood Alliance on September 9 announced one-month ceasefire that it starts September 9 and ends October 8 with the purpose of implementing negotiation process after halting local clashes.

The clashes between the Brotherhood Alliance formed the TNLA, the MNDAA and the AA and Tatmadaw are taking place starting from August 15 to September 3 in northern Shan State.

During the period of the ceasefire, they won’t launch offensive on Tatmadaw. But if Tatmadaw launches offensive on them, they will respond to the government troops through defensive position, the announcement of the Brotherhood Alliance said.

If Tatmadaw launches operations and military activities in the regions held by the Brotherhood Alliance, attacks on them with the use of heavy weapons, attacks on them with the use of fighter planes and helicopters, they will fight back Tatmadaw through defensive position, the announcement of the Brotherhood Alliance said.

The Brotherhood Alliance, the KIA and the government are still negotiating to sign bilateral ceasefire agreement. The government’s NRPC and the four armed groups of Northern Alliance held a meeting on August 31. Tatmadaw announced ceasefire extension that Tatmadaw won’t carry out military operations and activities in the five military commands from September 1 to 21.

The military commands Tatmadaw won’t carry out military operations and activities are Northern Command, North-East Command, Eastern Command, Central East Command and Triangle Command. Tatmadaw has stopped carrying out military operations and activities for eight months from December 21 of 2018 to August 31 of 2019.
