A female assistant clerk from the Thaton District Court in Mon State and her husband were shot and killed by gunmen, according to local residents.
The couple, Daw Thin Thin Myat and her husband U Kyaw Hein, were at their home in Gawt Gyi Village, in Gawt village-tract, Thaton Township, on the morning of September 21 at around 10 a.m. when two gunmen arrived and shot them, as reported by neighbors.
One witness stated that the gunmen entered the house, claiming they wanted to hand over a case file, before pulling out guns and opening fire, killing the couple on the spot.
Daw Thin Thin Myat was shot in the left arm, chest, and rib cage, with one bullet exiting through the back of her neck. U Kyaw Hein sustained gunshot wounds to the right cheek, right arm, and abdomen, with one bullet exiting through his left side. Both died at the scene.
After the attack, the gunmen reportedly fled on a motorcycle towards Win Sein Village. The incident occurred near Thaton Township Computer University.
Local humanitarian groups transported the bodies to Thaton District General Hospital for autopsy.
This killing follows the June 1 shooting of U Khin Lay Zaw (also known as U Zaw Lay), the village administrator of Taung Sun Village, Thaton Township, highlighting a growing pattern of violence in the region.
