Agriculture sees less than 0.5% of $490m foreign investment across two months

Inflow of foreign investment was valued at over US$490 million in September and October this year, but agriculture sector represented less than 0.5 percent, according to data from Myanmar Investment Commission.

Foreign investment amounted to US$492.921 million—over US$455 million in September and over US$37 million in October.

In the two months, 17 businesses invested over US$223 million in industry sector, accounting for more than 45 percent.

One business invested US$0.199 million in agriculture sector, accounting for 0.04 percent.

In the same period, US$44.11 million was invested in transport and communications sector, US$92.68 million in electricity sector and over US$84 million in housing development sector.

In the two months, 28 businesses were approved creating jobs for 11,000 people.

Myanmar Investment Commission stated that the country received over US$77.740 billion in 30 years from 1988-1989 fiscal year to October this year.
