ACC files case against corrupt government officials

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) opened a case against four government officials including the Director-General of the Department of Water Resources and Rivers and Creeks Development and a retired deputy director-general, in accordance with the Anti-Corruption Law as they received money illegally, according to the ACC’s statement on April 10.

According to Section 56 of the Anti-Corruption Law,  an FIR was filed at Zabuthiri Myoma Police Station in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, against Director-General Tun Lwin Oo, Deputy Director-General Ko Ko Oo (now retried and advisor), director Thaung Lwin (now Deputy Director-General), Deputy Director Aung Kyaw Hmu (now director) and Director Tun Naing Win.

The ACC made an investigation into the complaint about the corruption of the Director-General, the Deputy Director-General and director of the Water Resources and Rivers and Creeks Development Department.

The department implemented the projects, using the budgets allotted from the Union budget and the region and state government budgets. The five officials received a large sum of money through the remittance of these funds to the headquarters, by abusing power.

Kyaw Soe, Spokesperson of the ACC said: “The ACC made an investigation into the allotment of budgets from the funds. Our investigation team found that they asked for money illegally from region and state offices in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018.

The accused received Ks 237,697,780.22 from region and state offices in 2014, Ks 88,976,215.64 in 2015, Ks129.5 million in 2017 and Ks 810 in 2018.
