A gang of pickpockets consists of about seven people killed a trishaw driver, who was involved in arresting a pickpocket near the Hledan junction in Kamaryut Township on May 3, was stabbed and beaten to death on Zeyar Thiri Road on May 4, sources said.

The incident took place on Zeyar Thiri Road in a crowded area.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Gatone, who had been a trishaw driver for about three years. He lives in 7 ½ mile and had a wife and a baby, according to locals.

The pickpockets also stabbed a man selling SIM cards on Zeyar Thiri Road and threatened vendors in the area.

In some townships of Yangon Region, robberies and pickpocketing were reported during the day, said Yangon residents.
