617 foreigners granted permanent residency: immigration minister

Starting from 2015 and up till now, of the 795 foreigners who had applied for permanent residence, 617 had been granted, said U Thein Swe, State Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population.  

The minister stated this on 12 Jan  at the meeting of the committee for the granting of permits for permanent residence.   

U Thein Swe, President of the Committee for the Implementation of Permanent Residence  of Foreigners, said that in permitting foreigners all the requirements from the applicants and the requirements of the system a committee was formed to see that it was in accordance  with international standards, and to study their systems extensively to give permanent residence to foreigners.

Laws concerning the permanent residence of foreigners were enacted by the Ministry of labour, Immigration and Population on 18th  Nov. 2014. Revision of the law was enacted on 27 Apr 2017, and earlier applications by foreigners for permanent residence were  accepted not only in Myanmar but also in Myanmar Embassies abroad. Permanent residence  was granted from 2015 under four categories, namely, experts, investors Myanmar Expatriates,  and foreigners who are blood relatives of Expatriates. 

Applications were scrutinized by various committees, and since the start and till now 705 foreigners had applied for permanent residence,  and 617 had been granted Permanent residence.  Applicants are graded according to prevailing laws, and those applications that are forwarded by the committee are to be further scrutinized,  and after being approved the applicants are to be personally interviewed and to do the needful in keeping with the COVID-19 pandemic.
