The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced that a moderate earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, centered about 23 miles southeast of Pyapon, shook at about 7:00 pm on August 20.
A moderate earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, centered about 56 miles southwest of the Kabar Aye Seismological Station (about 23 miles southeast of Pyapon), was detected in the Myanmar Sea, (about 23 miles southeast of Pyapon), at a latitude of 16.07 degrees north, longitude of 95.94 degrees east, and a depth of 118 kilometers at 7:00 pm on August 20, the DMH announced.
The tremor was also felt significantly by some people in Yangon.
"I think it shook around 7 pm. We live on a high-rise building, so we felt it very clearly. Many people also said that they felt the tremor significantly. The DMH reported a 4.8 magnitude quake. It was a little strong. That's why we, who live on high-rise building, felt it very clearly," said a Yangon resident.
