At the present, about three or four per cent of Yangon population may be infected with COVID-19 virus, said Professor Dr Zaw Wai Soe, Vice Chairman of COVID-19 Contain, Control and Treating Coordination Committee for Yangon Region to state owned media.

“If our estimation is correct, 210,000 or 280,000 people from the region may be infected with COVID-19. If we found about 100,000 COVID-19 confirmed patients, there may be 100,000 or 200,000 positive patients living among the public,” he said.

The infection rate is stable as it mostly occurs in public areas such as markets, retirement homes, factories and religious places, said Dr Than Naing Soe, Spokesperson of Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS).

A total of one million masks and 0.1 million face shields are handed out in markets, bus stops, ports and airports in Yangon Region for providing healthcare education about COVID-19 to the public, according to the Public Health and Treatment Department for Yangon Region.

“Everyone went to the market and shoppers and sellers need to wear masks and face shields as the COVID-19 pandemic period is reached for about 11 months now. Everyone should know how to protect from the COVID-19 infection,” said Dr Than Naing Soe.

Masks, face shields and handouts are distributed to sellers and shoppers and the authorities provided healthcare education using hand speakers.

If the suspected symptoms are seen before the suspects are tested using anti-gen rapid test kit, Public Health Department instructed the authorities to perform  anti-gen rapid test kit without delay.
