Myanmar and Asean in bid to stage young World Cup football tournament

The Myanmar Football Federation in collaboration with some Asean countries is making an attempt to host young World Cup football tournaments after 2021.

Zaw Zaw, President of the MFF, met with Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA at its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, on May 22. During the meeting Zaw Zaw requested to host Under-17 and Under-20 World Cup football tournaments.

Myanmar to host Hockey Challenge Cup of Asia-2017

Myanmar will be hosting the Hockey Challenge Cup of Asia-2017, organized by Asian Hockey Federation. 

The event will be held at the Theinphyu Hockey Field in Yangon in November.

Myanmar Hockey Federation is now practising for international events including SEA Games.

Former Man U defender Ronny Johnsen trains young Myanmar footballers

A coaching team led by Jean Ronny Johnsen, a former defender with famous English club Manchester United, gave basic football training to young Myanmar footballers on Thursday.

Johnsen’s coaching team taught basic football techniques to more than 30 players from under-12 and under-14 teams on the first day of a training programme at the National Football Academy sponsored by Manda Fermentation.

After, the coaches gave commemorative emblems to the players.

They were due to continue training the young local players on Friday morning and evening.

Myanmar to face India in Asian Cup Qualifiers on March 18

The Myanmar national football team will play India in the first leg of the third round of the Asian Cup Qualifiers for 2019 in March.

The AFC will hold all the first legs of the third round of AFC Cup Qualifiers on a single day.

The 24 teams were divided into six groups of four teams, and are due to play home-and-away round-robin matches. The top two teams of each group will qualify for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, where they are joined by the 12 teams which qualified directly from the second round.
