Myanmar’s Department of Labour has relaxed requirements for Myanmar workers returning from overseas leave, no longer requiring embassy endorsements and employers’ leave letters, according to an announcement by the department.

Previously, Myanmar workers returning from abroad on leave were required to submit leave letters issued by their employers and endorsements from the relevant embassies. The relaxed measures took effect on October 10, the department said.

However, Myanmar workers holding PJ-type passports who return overseas after their leave period must still submit the required documents before departure.

The required documents include a passport, copies of a valid work permit or visa, and front and back copies of an Overseas Worker Identification Card (OWIC) valid for at least one year.

Workers must also provide copies of passport pages bearing departure and entry stamps issued by the Department of Immigration, a copy of their air ticket, and detailed evidence of legally remitting 25 percent of their family remittances over the most recent three months.

In addition, they must submit proof of having paid 2 percent income tax for one year and a reporting form confirming their arrival.
