U.S. citizen Adam Michael Castillo deported in interest of bilateral relations

U.S. citizen Adam Michael Castillo, who was charged with violating restrictions and directives under the organizational rules of the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (AmCham Myanmar), has been deported from Myanmar, according to reports.

In accordance with the Myanmar government’s policy of maintaining friendly and cordial relations with countries around the world, Castillo was deported from Nay Pyi Taw International Airport on the evening of September 16, 2026.

Castillo was reportedly a defendant in a case opened against him on June 8, 2026, at the Pabedan Police Station under Case No. 69/2026 and Section 409 of the Penal Code, for allegedly violating restrictions and directives stipulated in the organizational rules of the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar.

He was deported in accordance with the prescribed procedures, with consideration given to maintaining friendly relations between Myanmar and the United States, according to the report.
