President U Min Aung Hlaing has stated that Myanmar will take necessary responses on a case-by-case basis to what he described as negative discrimination by some ASEAN member states.

The President made the remarks during his address to the Union Parliament on July 31, marking the government's first 100 days in office. His comments came while outlining the government's foreign policy priorities and its approach to ASEAN.

Speaking on ASEAN-related affairs, President U Min Aung Hlaing said the ASEAN Five-Point Statement was not a consensus decision of all ASEAN member states but was issued as an annex to the statement of the ASEAN Chair.

He noted that the government had previously made clear that it would give positive consideration to ASEAN statements if they support the government's planned roadmap, contribute to Myanmar's national interests, and are based on the principles of the ASEAN Charter, the ASEAN Way, and the ASEAN Spirit.

"Over the past five years, although some ASEAN member states have adopted positions and discriminatory measures against Myanmar, we have exercised patience and continued to fulfill our responsibilities as an ASEAN member state. The government will respond to such negative discrimination with appropriate measures on a case-by-case basis," the President said.

He added that the government will continue to shape its relations with ASEAN based on Myanmar's national interests, sovereignty, and the country's independent approach to regional engagement, while adhering to the nation's foreign policy.

The President also reaffirmed that Myanmar will continue to uphold its constitutional foreign policy of an independent, active, and non-aligned stance, while pursuing balanced relations with the international community.

He further stated that the government will continue to strengthen cooperation with neighboring and regional countries across political, economic, and social sectors, while promoting international relations in accordance with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
