Emergency relief and rescue operations have been carried out in Khamaukkyi Township, Tanintharyi Region, due to flash flooding caused by water flowing down from mountainous areas, according to reports.

Heavy rainfall on the night of September 17 in Khamaukkyi Township, Kawthoung District, Tanintharyi Region, caused mountain runoff to flow into the area, raising water levels in Khamaukkyi Creek and resulting in flooding in Ward 1.

Local residents said that homes were inundated by the mountain runoff, while sections of the Yangon-Myeik-Kawthoung Union Highway were also flooded.

Army personnel, police, firefighters, social welfare and charitable organizations, together with local residents, have been carrying out emergency relief and rescue operations for flood-affected residents, including establishing temporary relief camps, evacuating residents to safer areas and delivering food and other necessities.

Due to the mountain runoff, about 200 feet of the road on the Bokpyin-Kawthoung Union Highway has been inundated. Traffic guidance signs have been installed to ensure the safe passage of vehicles, while the waterway conditions are being monitored and necessary rescue operations are continuing.
