Mandalay - Police have arrested six suspects in connection with the armed robbery at the Million Gold Shop on Manawhari Road in Mandalay, according to sources on July 23.

The robbery occurred at around 4:00 pm. on July 20 at the Million Gold Shop, located on Manawhari Road between 62nd and 63rd Streets in Chanmyathazi Township. Approximately one viss (about 1.63 kilograms) of gold was stolen during the incident.

Police launched an investigation and tracked the suspects using the motorcycle they had ridden during the robbery. The suspects were later arrested in Mandalay and villages near Sagaing.

Authorities said all six individuals involved in the crime have been taken into custody, including five men who directly carried out the robbery and one person accused of coordinating and directing the operation.

A Mandalay Region Police official said that several of the suspects had previous criminal records, including convictions for murder, theft, and pickpocketing. One suspect had reportedly served three prison terms, while two of those arrested are father and son. The alleged mastermind was arrested in Bago after reportedly disguising himself as a Buddhist monk while attempting to evade capture.

Police are continuing to recover evidence and investigate whether the suspects were involved in other criminal offenses.

The suspects are being prosecuted under Case No. (P)114/2026 at No. 11 Police Station under Section 395 of Myanmar's Penal Code, which covers robbery committed by a group.

According to investigators, the five robbers wore face masks and motorcycle helmets with tinted visors to conceal their identities. They allegedly fired a gun to intimidate bystanders and prevent anyone from approaching before fleeing with the stolen gold.
