Two earthquakes strike near Gangaw on March 26, including magnitude 4.2 tremor

Two earthquakes were recorded on the night of March 26 near Gangaw Township, including a magnitude 4.2 tremor, according to a statement from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The first quake occurred as an aftershock of a stronger earthquake previously recorded in Mandalay. The second tremor struck southeast of Gangaw.

According to official reports, the magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred at 9:16 pm. Myanmar Standard Time. Its epicenter was located about 63 miles northwest of the Nyaung-U seismic station, approximately 21 miles southeast of Gangaw, at a depth of 43 kilometers. The quake was classified as a light-intensity earthquake.

Earlier that evening, at 7:36 pm., another aftershock was recorded about two miles east of Maha Aung Myay Township in Mandalay Region, at a depth of 12 kilometers.

Residents in Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lwin, and Sagaing reported clearly feeling the tremors, according to local sources.
