The Ministry of Immigration and Population will issue National Registration Cards (NRCs) and Unique Identification (UID) numbers to students aged 10 in basic education schools from June to the end of July, Union Minister U Myint Kyaing said.

He made the remarks at a coordination meeting held at the ministry’s conference hall in Nay Pyi Taw on April 21, aimed at clarifying the President’s directives and ensuring effective implementation of government tasks within the first 100 days.

At the meeting, the Union Minister outlined key priorities, including issuing NRCs to children aged 10, expanding data collection through the e-ID system, and addressing cases of lost or damaged NRCs among those displaced by natural disasters and terrorist incidents. He also highlighted the need for citizens aged 18 to exchange their NRCs. He stressed that the issuance of NRCs to students and the assignment of UID numbers—through the collection of biometric and biographic data via the e-ID system—must be systematically planned and successfully implemented within the 100-day period. These processes, he noted, are essential for citizens’ daily activities and must be carried out with urgency and care to meet public needs. In addition, the ministry will continue its regular functions, including immigration and population registration activities, while prioritizing tasks that can deliver immediate benefits to the country and its people. He emphasized that, as a people-elected government, officials must adopt a people-centered approach, act in accordance with the law, and provide services with efficiency and courtesy.

During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary and Director Generals presented sector-wise progress and outlined plans for the ministry’s 100-day work programme.

Deputy Ministers U Lin Zaw Tun and Dr. Khine Khine Soe also made supplementary presentations, after which the Union Minister provided further guidance.

The meeting was attended by the Union Minister, Deputy Ministers, the Permanent Secretary, Director Generals, and other officials.
