According to a vehicle license service provider, the Road Transport Administration Department (RTAD) offices are fixing damaged barcodes and incorrect vehicle numbers when scanning the vehicle wheel tax.
“We are fixing damaged barcodes, incorrect vehicle numbers, and reflective stickers on the barcodes for free. If you have plastic cover over it, you need to uncover for it yourself. If the barcode is damaged, we will reprint it. If the barcode is wrong with the car number, we will reprint it. You can go to the RTAD offices to repair it. You just need to bring the car owner book and the wheel tax. You don’t need to bring the car along,” said a vehicle license service provider.
Depending on the number of people who come to fix it, it is needed to wait, and it is being done at the computer center in the RTAD offices.
According to those who have experienced it, some vehicles were not allowed to fill up fuel because the QR code on the vehicle wheel tax was not the same as the vehicle number when scanned in the QR system for fuel sales.
The trial has been underway in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Taunggyi since March 12, and the situation was first encountered on March 13.
“When I arrived at Myintha this morning, there were cars lined up at RTAD office, when I asked them whether they are queuing up for vehicle license renewal process or not, they replied me that they are queuing up to fix the incorrect barcodes in their wheel tax. There are a lot of cars that have to be changed,” said an eyewitness.
Gas stations that sell fuel also scan the QR code on the vehicle wheel tax and check the vehicle number, chassis number, etc. before selling.
“The main thing is to check the vehicle registration number. If everything is correct, we check if you have bought fuel today or not. If you have not bought it yet, we will fill up fuel,” said a salesperson.
A vehicle owner said that he can check whether his vehicle registration number and the one on the wheel tax are the same by downloading the barcode and QR scanner app from the Google Play Store and scanning the QR code on the wheel tax. If they are the same, it is convenient to fill up fuel, but if they are different, he will not be able to fill up fuel. If they are different, he can go to the relevant RTAD office to have it fixed.
“It’s like changing our UID number. When we went to change, we found we get the wrong spelling of our father’s name, or the wrong spelling of our name. Now it’s happening with cars. We have to fix it. If not, we can’t fill up fuel. We can download the app I mentioned and check it. This is a scanner that civilians use. It’s different from the ones at gas stations. My car has the same chassis number and license plate number, so I don’t need to change it. If it’s different, we have to fix it,” said a vehicle owner in Yangon.
