DMH forecasts southwest monsoon to spread across Myanmar from June 1–5

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has forecast that the southwest monsoon is likely to cover the entire country between June 1 and 5.

According to the department's June weather outlook, two low-pressure areas are expected to form over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal during the month, with one of them likely to intensify into a depression. Monsoon activity over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal is expected to be moderate to strong during this period.

Rainfall is forecast to be above normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Bago, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, as well as Kayah, Kayin, Mon and southern Shan states. Rainfall is expected to be near normal in Mandalay, Magway and Sagaing regions, and in Kachin, Chin, Rakhine, northern Shan and eastern Shan states.

The DMH also predicted that Yangon, eastern Bago, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, along with Kachin, Kayin, Mon and Rakhine states, are likely to experience between 22 and 28 rainy days during June. Western Bago and Upper Sagaing regions, as well as Kayah, Chin and Shan states, are expected to record 16 to 21 rainy days. Meanwhile, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Magway and Lower Sagaing regions are forecast to receive rainfall on approximately 10 to 15 days during the month.
