Senior General Min Aung Hlaing meets Russian President at Kremlin to discuss bilateral cooperation, including peaceful use of nuclear energy

The Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC), Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, and the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin, met and discussed on the evening of September 25 at the Kremlin in Moscow, according to sources.

During the meeting, the Russian President said he warmly welcomed the Acting President and all members and the diplomatic relations between the two countries have been established for over 70 years and that during the Acting President visit to Russia, many agreements were signed between the two countries. He said that they will discuss in detail how to continue to implement the agreements reached between the two governments.

Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing expressed his great pleasure at having the opportunity to meet with the Russian President again despite his busy schedule. He said Myanmar-Russia diplomatic relations have been established for over 70 years, and the military-diplomatic relations between the two militaries are also based on strong friendship and cooperation. He acknowledged that every country has the right to defend its sovereignty and the security interests of its people and citizens if they are violated, and he welcomed Russia's efforts to achieve lasting peace. He said that free and fair multi-party democratic general elections will be held in the near future, and that after the elections, he will hand over the reins of power in accordance with democratic standards. He also said that international observation teams will be invited during the elections. He said that in the future, the two countries will continue to implement multi-sectorial cooperation for the common interests of the two countries and their peoples.

Then, they exchanged views on issues related to enhancing bilateral friendship and cooperation were discussed, including the peaceful use of nuclear energy, investment, electricity, health and pharmaceutical production, agriculture, cooperation in the education sector, defense cooperation and other areas in a cordial and open manner.

The meeting was attended by the Commission Secretary and Joint Chief Executive General Ye Win Oo, the Commission member Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Ministers U Nyan Tun, U Ko Ko Lwin, Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Dr Thet Khaing Win, Chief Minister of Mandalay Region U Myo Aung, Myanmar Ambassador to the Russian Federation U Thit Lin Ohn and officials. The President of the Russian Federation was accompanied by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, the Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Ministers for Finance and Energy, officials and heads of government.
