A school enrollment ceremony and educational support material distribution event was held on the morning of May 27 at Basic Education High School No. 1 in Myawaddy and other schools in the township of the Kayin State.
The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Myawaddy District Administration Council U Kaung San Lin, the chairman of the township administration body, district- and township-level departmental officials, local elders led by U Than Shwe, teachers, and students.
The event began with traditional dance performances presented by students as entertainment for the guests. Following the performances, District Administration Council Chairman U Kaung San Lin delivered the opening remarks, stating that it is essential for students to become capable and virtuous individuals who can achieve their goals and ambitions.
He added that schools play a vital role in strengthening both academic and practical knowledge for the development of the nation’s human resources, and urged all members of society to cooperate in ensuring that all school-age children are able to attend school and receive education.
Afterward, educational support materials were distributed to students from Grade 1 to Grade 12. Officials also presented certificates of honor to donors who contributed educational assistance.
It was also reported that U Saw Chit Thu and his wife Daw Nan Khin Hla Thu donated 240 million kyats for the reopening of Thingannyinaung High School, which had been closed for more than a year due to armed conflict and had suffered war-related damage. The donation will be used for school repairs and necessities, including roofing, aluminum doors, a solar lighting system, ceilings, and student desks.
Myawaddy Township Education Officer U Moe Kyaw also delivered remarks expressing happiness that previously closed schools within Myawaddy District have been able to reopen. He said the reopening was made possible through the collective efforts and goodwill of education supporters.
The ceremony concluded with students from Basic Education High School No. 2 singing the patriotic song “Zati Mann."
