In Mon State, Kyaikhto Township, a police officer conducting checks on unlicensed vehicles was shot and killed, according to local residents.
On the morning of June 8, around 9 a.m., near the intersection of Yangon-Mawlamyine Road and Kyaikhto bypass road, security forces, traffic police, and administrative officials were inspecting unlicensed vehicles when a man riding a motorcycle shot Sub-Inspector Win Kyaing in the head and fled the scene on the motorbike, a Kyaikhto resident reported.
The resident further stated, the police officer who was shot died at the scene. After the incident, security forces blocked and conducted searches at entry and exit points of Kyaikhto town."
Although security personnel were present at the location where unlicensed vehicles were being inspected, no exchange of fire occurred, the local resident added.
In a related incident, on the evening of June 5, around 6 p.m., near Kawtkadut village in Bilin Township, a homemade mine exploded close to where security forces were checking unlicensed vehicles on the Bilin-Taung Soon road. The blast killed one civilian and injured another.
