Four injured in gas refilling fire in Mandalay’s Tampawaddy Ward

A fire broke out late Monday morning (May 5) at a gas refilling station in Mandalay’s TampawaddyWard injuring four people, two of them were seriously injured, according to Myanmar Fore Services Department.

The incident occurred at around 11:00 am on 84th Street, near Patee Lane where a gas shop was transferring liquid gas from a large cylinder into smaller portable gas tanks. Authorities say the refilling process exceed the recommended pressure, causing gas to escape and ignite.

The blaze damaged a single-story structure measuring 15 by 15 feet, constructed with galvanized roofing and brick flooring. Four large cylinders were also destroyed, along with the upper floors of a neighboring two-story building measuring 20 by 30 feet.

A total of 10 fire engines, 5 water tankers, 2 command vehicle, and over 100 fire fighters and emergency personnel were deployed to the scene. Officials confirmed the flames were contained by 11;24 am and fully extinguished by 11;32 am.

Among the injured, a 35 –year –old man sustained severe burns to his face, both hands, legs and hips and is listed in critical condition.A 28 years old man also suffered serious burns. A 41 years old woman received minor burns and 27 years old fire fighter suffered facial burns and minor injuries to his right hand. Police have opened a case against the 35 years old male operator under Section 285 of the Penal Code, which addresses negligent conduct leading to fire hazard,
