On April 2, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister, met with H.E. Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of the Nippon Foundation and Special Envoy of the Government of Japan, to discuss earthquake relief efforts and donate materials to affected areas.
The meeting took place in the afternoon at the Tatmadaw Guest House in Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, Mr. Sasakawa presented various relief supplies, including 50 backpacks containing 14 types of essential materials to aid in the earthquake relief efforts. The donation also included 60 relief hats and a pair of gloves, which were handed over to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
The two leaders discussed the earthquake's impact on Myanmar, the ongoing collaboration between international and local relief teams, and the delivery of aid supplies. The Senior General and Mr. Sasakawa highlighted the effective cooperation between Myanmar’s relief teams, international teams, and volunteers in providing assistance to those in need.
In addition, Mr. Sasakawa expressed the Nippon Foundation’s commitment to further supporting the relief efforts by pledging food and other essential supplies worth US$3 million for the earthquake-affected communities.
