Myanmar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on March 21 that it would accept two Myanmar nationals deported by the United States.
According to the ministry, the two individuals are scheduled to arrive in Myanmar on March 19 and March 28, respectively.
The statement explained that countries worldwide typically deport foreign nationals who pose a threat to national interests, have committed crimes, or have entered illegally. Similarly, under the U.S. government's current policies, authorities continue to enforce immigration laws by deporting undocumented individuals and foreign nationals with criminal records.
Myanmar's government has been coordinating with relevant U.S. agencies regarding the deportation process. The two individuals arriving in March will travel separately by air, and Myanmar authorities will receive and provide necessary assistance upon their arrival.
The ministry urged Myanmar citizens to travel abroad only through legal channels and to adhere to the laws of their host countries. It emphasized that living within the legal framework of one’s home country remains the best course of action, as demonstrated by this deportation case.
In a related event in February 2021, Myanmar also accepted 1,086 deported nationals from Malaysia, who were repatriated via a military vessel operated by the Myanmar Navy.
