Myanmar reshuffles cabinet members

The Union Cabinet has been reorganized with 35 members, the State Administration Council (SAC) announced on January 31.

The SAC issued an order on January 31 stating that the Union Cabinet has been reorganized in accordance with Article 419 of the Constitution to implement the five-point roadmap and nine objectives more quickly and effectively.

The reorganized Union Cabinet consists of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing as the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers as Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Union Minister for the Prime Minister’s Office Admiral Tin Aung San, Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Htun Oo, Union Minister for Defence General Maung Maung Aye, Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein, and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe.

In the newly formed Union Government, Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, who was previously the Union Minister for Border Affairs, has been appointed as the Union Minister for Home Affairs, and Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, who was previously the Union Minister for Home Affairs, has been reassigned as the Union Minister for Border Affairs.

In addition, Admiral Moe Aung has been appointed as the Union Minister for the Office of the Chairman of the State Administration Council (1), U Ko Ko Hlaing as the Union Minister for the Office of the Chairman of the State Administration Council (2), U Maung Maung Tint as the Union Minister for the Office of the Chairman of the State Administration Council (3), and U Aung Kyaw Ho as the Union Minister for the Office of the Chairman of the State Administration Council (4).

Similarly, Dr Kan Zaw has been appointed as the Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Dr Thida Oo as the Union Minister for Legal Affairs, U Maung Maung Ohn as the Union Minister for Information, U Tin Oo Lwin as the Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, U Min Naung as the Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, U Hla Moe as the Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development, and U Khin Maung Yi as the Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.

In addition, U Nyan Tun has been appointed as the Union Minister for Electric Power, U Ko Ko Lwin as the Union Minister for Energy, Dr Charlie Than as the Union Minister for Industry, U Myint Kyaing as the Union Minister for Immigration and Population, U Chit Swe as the Union Minister for Labour, U Tun Ohn as the Union Minister for Commerce, Dr Nyunt Pe as the Union Minister for Education, Dr Myo Thein Kyaw as the Union Minister for Science and Technology, Dr Thet Khaing Win as the Union Minister for Health, and Jeng Phang Naw Taung as the Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs.

Similarly, the newly formed Union Government includes U Myo Thant as the Union Minister for Construction, Dr Soe Win as the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, U Kyaw Soe Win as the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, U Khun Thant Zaw Htoo as Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs and U Zaw Thin Than as Permanent Secretary of the Union Government Office.
