Thai authorities have arrested 169 illegal Myanmar migrants in a trailer truck, the Bangkok Post reported.

In the early hours of January 31, illegal Myanmar migrants and two Thai people traffickers were also arrested in Kanchanaburi’s Thong Pha Phum district, the report said.

After receiving a tip-off that the trailer truck, registered in Kanchanaburi province, was carrying illegal immigrants, local officials, soldiers and border guards stopped the 22-wheeled trailer at Tha Khanum road checkpoint, said Thong Pha Phum district chief Chakrit Tanphirun.

The incident involved 102 men and 67 women, who were found crammed into the vehicle, the report added.

The traffickers, identified as Chinnakon Saensikhammuan and Khem, were arrested in the incident. They are residents of Kanchanaburi province.

The two Thai men admitted to the authorities that they had received 6,000 baht each to transport the illegal immigrants to Muang district, and that this was their second trip.

The 169 Myanmar illegal immigrants and the two Thai suspects were handed over to the Thong Pha Phum police station, and the report added that they are planning to expand their investigations to arrest those involved in the smuggling operations.
