58 prisoners granted amnesty in Myeik and Kawthaung

A total of 58 prisoners, including both men and women, have been granted amnesty in Myeik and Kawthaung, according to official sources.

The release was carried out under Order No. (40/2026) issued by the Office of the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, marking the Myanmar New Year Day on April 17, 2026. The amnesty applies to inmates serving sentences in various prisons for violations of existing laws.

Those released include 15 prisoners from Myeik Prison—13 men and 2 women—as well as 15 inmates from Kyauk Phyu Taung labor camp and 3 from Natsin labor camp. In addition, 25 prisoners from the 9-Mile Prison in Kawthaung Township, comprising 20 men and 5 women, were also granted amnesty.

The individuals were pardoned under Section 401, Subsection (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure after having served an appropriate portion of their sentences and demonstrating good conduct during their imprisonment.
