Four Chinese nationals who illegally entered sites near Myawaddy through unauthorized routes have been arrested, authorities said.

The arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown on foreign nationals involved in online gambling, online fraud, and other criminal activities in Myanmar’s border areas. Authorities said the suspects had entered Myanmar via neighboring countries, including Thailand, before traveling to sites around Myawaddy in Kayin State.

From January 30, 2025, to June 12, 2026, authorities detained a total of 14,707 foreign nationals who entered Myawaddy Township illegally. Investigations have been completed for all detainees, and 13,540 have already been deported to their respective countries via Thailand in accordance with legal procedures.

Of the remaining 1,167 foreign nationals, 662 have been prosecuted under Myanmar’s immigration and drug laws. The other 505 individuals are being held and are ready for repatriation to their home countries.

Authorities said Myanmar is cooperating with neighboring countries, regional partners, and international organizations to identify and prosecute those involved in online scam operations, including foreign organizers, while also facilitating the return of trafficking victims and distressed foreign nationals.
