Husband killed, wife injured in landmine explosion near Mayangon Village, Mon State

In the Mon State, Kyaikmaraw Township, near the entrance to Mayangon Village in the Chaung Nikhwe village-tract, a local couple encountered a landmine explosion. The husband was killed, and the wife was injured, according to local sources.

The incident occurred on January 9 at around 4 p.m. The couple, residents of Mayangon Village, had been returning from spreading fertilizer in a nearby field. While riding a three-wheeled motorcycle, they happened to step on a buried landmine at the entrance to Mayangon Village, causing the explosion, a local resident reported.

The local further explained, "They were pushing their three-wheeled motorcycle up a slope near the village entrance when Ko Chit Ma Kon stepped on the landmine. The explosion severely injured both of them. While being transported to Mawlamyine People’s Hospital, Ko Chit Ma Kon succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding before reaching the hospital. His wife sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment."

The body of Ko Chit Ma Kon, who was killed in the explosion, was laid to rest on January 10 at the cemetery in Mayangon Village, the local source added.
